Paint by number kits have been around since Max S. Klein, a commercial artist and owner of the Palmer Paint Company, created them in 1950. Variations of Klein’s original kit have brought countless hours of joy to children, bored people and the artistically challenged ever since. Over the last several decades, paint by number kits have made the journey from cutting edge to kitsch to kind of cool again in the right context (ah, the great the great circle of life).
